JOB DESCRIPTION
SERVER ADMIN
A server admin who is also known as a system administrator or network administrator is essential to ensuring that an organization's IT infrastructure runs smoothly and effectively.
This role involves installation, configuration, upkeep, and dependable functioning of computer servers and related systems fall within the purview of the server administrator. This entails making sure the server infrastructure is highly available, secure, and performing at its best. In order to achieve the aims and objectives of the firm, the server administrator works with the IT team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and configuration of the server: Install and set up the hardware and software for the server. Install and maintain server operating systems, such as Linux and Windows Server. Adapt server responsibilities and functionalities to business requirements.
- Monitoring and maintenance of the server: Execute regular maintenance procedures, such as system backups, patches, and updates. Maintaining server availability and dependability requires monitoring server performance. Solve server-related problems quickly and thoroughly.
- Security Administration: Implement and maintain access controls and security protocols. To find security threats and vulnerabilities, track and audit server logs. To guard against future breaches, install security updates and patches.
- Network management: Manage and configure network configurations and services. Investigate network-related problems, such as firewall and router problems.
- User Account Administration: Create user accounts and rights, and manage them. keep the authentication procedures and user access controls in place. a disaster recovery plan and backup: Create and manage systems for backup and disaster recovery. Procedures for data recovery and backup should be tested. Virtualization of servers Utilize tools like VMware or Hyper-V to manage virtualized server systems.
- Documentation: Keep the documentation for server setups, processes, and policies up to date. Create and maintain system documentation for end users and IT personnel. Communication and Cooperation Maintain close contact with other IT personnel, such as network administrators, system administrators, and support teams. Effectively communicate server-related issues and modifications to the team and end users.
Qualifications:
- The equivalent of a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar profession.
- Server administration certification, such as CompTIA Server+ or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator.
- Proficiency with server operating systems, such as Linux and Windows Server. extensive familiarity with networking protocols and services.
- A working knowledge of virtualization technology. knowledge of security principles and best practices.
- Excellent ability to troubleshoot and solve problems. strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Experience: Server managers and administrators often have three to five years of relevant expertise.
