JOB DESCRIPTION

DATA VISUALIZATION ENGINEER

In companies that handle vast amounts of data and aim to convert complex information into understandable, perceptive, and useful graphics, a data visualization engineer plays a critical role. In order to design and produce data visualizations that support stakeholders in making data-driven decisions, this profession blends technical expertise with creative thinking.

An organization's ability to make defensible decisions based on data-driven insights is greatly enhanced by the work of a data visualization engineer. To bridge the gap between data and decision-making, this function demands a combination of technical expertise, creativity, and good communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing Data: Work together to comprehend the needs and goals of the data with business stakeholders, data scientists, and analysts. Examine datasets to find important trends and ideas that may be successfully conveyed with visual aids.
  • Designing Visualizations: Construct logical and aesthetically pleasing data visualizations, including dashboards, reports, graphs, and charts. To successfully present information, select the right chart formats, color schemes, and interactive elements.
  • Tool Expertise: To create and develop visuals, use tools and frameworks for data visualization like Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, Matplotlib, and others. Keep abreast of new developments in the field's tools and technologies.
  • Integration of Data: Data quality and consistency are ensured by extracting, cleaning, and transforming data from several sources. Incorporate information into the visualization platform via databases, spreadsheets, APIs, and other sources.
  • Interactive Display Panels: Make dynamic dashboards that let people go down, filter, and examine the data to get more in-depth understanding.
  • Performance Enhancement: Enhance the efficiency of data visualizations to guarantee seamless operation even with huge datasets.
  • User Instruction: Teach stakeholders and end users how to efficiently use and understand the data visualizations.
  • Cooperation: Work together with engineers, business analysts, and data scientists in cross-functional teams to incorporate data visualizations into reporting systems or applications.
  • Data Safety and Adherence: Make sure that data visualizations follow compliance and data security rules, particularly in sectors where data protection is strictly regulated.
  • Constant Enhancement: Keep up with the latest developments in data analytics and visualization industry trends and best practices. Continue to enhance and hone current visuals in response to user input and changing business requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree (a master's degree could be desirable) in computer science, data science, information systems, or a similar discipline.
  • Proficiency with libraries and tools for data visualization.
  • Strong programming abilities, including familiarity with R, Python, SQL, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with ETL procedures (data extraction, transformation, and loading).
  • Knowledge of database and data storage systems.
  • Understanding of color theory, user experience (UX) design, and design ideas.
  • Strong ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Both the ability to work with big datasets and attention to detail.
